Gravel Birds 2026 is on! ☀️
A 1000 km gravel adventure through the remote regions of the Guadiana valley and the majestic Atlantic coast
Gravel Birds 2026 is on. The Castro Verde Biosphere Reserve (UNESCO) is home to the most important cereal steppe area in Portugal, one of the most representative in the Iberian Peninsula and throughout Europe. This ecosystem is nationally and internationally recognized for its importance to several bird species, such as the amazing Great Bustard (Otis tarda), Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni), Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax), Black-bellied Sandgrouse (Pterocles orientalis) or Montagu's Harrier (Circus pygargus).
Gravel Birds 2026
The bike bags are ready. The bike is too.
Everything in the workshop is tidied up — almost. Just enough to leave with a light heart. We're about to hit the road for the Gravel Birds XL, the extended version of the adventure. A route of about 1000 km, designed as a true crossing: we first follow the classic 750 km route to Beja, before heading back up to Évora, exploring the landscapes around Alqueva, Western Europe's largest artificial lake.
A bikepacking odyssey of long gravel lines, heat, villages, and open horizons.
Wilder, more challenging too, with nearly 70% trails and significant elevation gain — between 11,500 and 15,000 meters depending on the trackers. Not exactly a straight line, but rather a succession of trails, detours, and unexpected moments. As often, we set out to ride. But above all, to see, feel, meet.
To rediscover that simple rhythm, where days begin with the light and end somewhere, without really knowing where.
On the road with the MTB from our friends at Caminade to comfortably conquer the 1000 kilometers of gravel — heading for adventure!
Alentejo, land of adventure and contrasts
The succession of landscapes is striking: hard and perfect gravel roads, soothing solitude, remote and almost silent villages, ruins of the past whispering ancient stories, open pastures, cork oak forests, rolling mountains, all the way to wild beaches and impressive sea cliffs. Every pedal stroke in Alentejo is an immersion: in nature, in silence, in time. The invitation to adventure is clear, profound, and unforgettable. A region to explore unhurriedly, with curious eyes and an open heart 💛
An edition to wear
And for this edition, we've also designed a little item to accompany the journey. In our workshop, we've created a pair of cotton socks inspired by the landscapes of Alentejo — their colors, their light, that very special atmosphere you won't forget. As always, we entrusted their manufacturing to our dear team les Trois Tricoteurs, in Roubaix, to bring them to life.
And because this adventure is meant to be shared, and women's cycling deserves to be celebrated, each participant in this edition will leave with a pair as a souvenir. A little piece of the road to take with them.
Follow us on instagram to experience the event up close: good vibes, breathtaking landscapes, moments of sharing and effort… We'll take you with us.
