Bikepacking is an adventure: dust, mud, rain, sun… Over the course of your rides, your panniers inevitably accumulate traces of the journey. Cleaning them regularly helps extend their lifespan , maintain their waterproofness , and prevent dirt from damaging the materials or zippers. Here's a simple, effective method adapted to our Velocidade panniers. Welcome to our Velocidade bikepacking pannier care guide .
1. Empty and remove the dirt
Start by removing all the contents of the bag. Open all the pockets and compartments, and shake gently to remove dust, pebbles and small debris.
2. Remove the mud and dry dust
Using a soft brush or cloth, remove dried dirt. For stubborn stains, lightly dampen a cloth and rub gently. Take the time to clean areas where dirt tends to accumulate: seams, fasteners, Velcro, and buckles.
3. Hand washing (recommended)
For a deeper clean:
Prepare lukewarm water with a little soap (mild soap).
Clean with a sponge or soft cloth , paying particular attention to the dirtiest areas.
Avoid harsh products (strong detergents, solvents, bleach), which can weaken materials or water-repellent treatments.
For what ?
The treatments and seams are designed to last, but they can wear out faster if overly aggressive products are used.
4. Rinsing
Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all traces of soap. Incomplete rinsing can attract dirt and weaken the fibers over time.
5. Air drying
Leave to dry in the shade, in a well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight: it can damage the materials and accelerate the degradation of water-repellent treatments.
Important : Ensure the bag is completely dry before storing it to avoid mold and odors.
6. Zippers: a small gesture, a big difference
After cleaning, you can apply a suitable lubricant to the zippers to ensure smooth gliding. This reduces wear and prevents dirt from blocking the closures.
7. Storage
Store your clean, dry panniers in a cool, dry place. Avoid compressing them for too long: this can weaken the materials and seams.

RICARDO VIEIRA - FOUNDER/DESIGNER/FASHIONIST
Ricardo has long been thinking about reducing his environmental impact, whether through his cycling and running, or in his daily life, having decided to become a vegetarian over 20 years ago. Curious and passionate, he began creating and making his first objects when his grandfather gave him a sewing machine for his 17th birthday, and since then, he has dedicated himself to creating, repairing, and making things with the same energy and in the same direction: simplicity and local production. Convinced that cycling is the ultimate low-carbon solution for everyday travel, Ricardo decided to create Velocidade and embarked on designing and crafting handmade bags using entirely artisanal methods.
